The MARE Publication Series, is a social-science series which provides an outlet for original monographs and edited volumes on topics related to oceans and coasts. In line with the mandate of MARE, the series is multidisciplinary and global in geographical scope. Topics include integrated coastal zone management, fisheries and aquaculture, coastal tourism, shipping, sea piracy, and coastal maritime life.

Series editors are Prof. Svein Jentoft (University of Tromsø, Norway) and Dr. Maarten Bavinck (University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands).
An international editorial board is being established. The intention is to publish a minimum of two volumes a year.

The Centre for Maritime Research (MARE) was established in 2000 as a European platform for social-science research on coastal and marine issues. Founding members are the University of Amsterdam (AGIDS and ASSR Research Institutes), Wageningen University (RDS chair group), and SISWO/Netherlands Institute for the Social Sciences.
