In Memoriam Rixt Runia
Rixt Runia passed away on October 6, 2020
As a publisher at Amsterdam University Press, Rixt built the educational textbook programme from the ground up. As a legal advisor, she created all the necessary and variable contracts and advised on acquisitions. As HR manager, she assisted with assessments, with dismissals, with appointments, with job applications, and with the design of the organisation. She was a confidant to all colleagues.
Rixt took her responsibilities seriously and was at times strict in her efforts to make sure the work was carried out properly. She always knew someone we might need. She knew a lot, could do a lot, did a lot and was smart. She was critical, loyal, passionate, loved freedom and liked to argue. We saw each other every week and often had contact on weekends too. From February 2013, a period of seven years and eight months, we enjoyed each other's company as she worked for Amsterdam University Press: a long, but far too short a time.
Neither of us could have imagined that it would end this abruptly. Rixt was both vulnerable and strong at the same time, and she was always a little bit crazy. She was happy to give advice and she was good at it, as well as in many other things.
Her tenaciousness meant that she worked for the Press right until the end and was able to transfer her duties to others.
We will miss her very much.
