The research program Independence, Decolonization, Violence and War in Indonesia 1945-1950 consists of various sub-studies and has resulted in twelve separate book publications that will appear from 17 February 2022. The summary review of the research programme, Beyond the Pale, contains the main findings and results of the sub-studies. Some titles (also) appear in English or Indonesian.

The results of the major decolonization study have been presented in Amsterdam on 17 February 2022. The conclusion is that the Dutch government and military leadership deliberately tolerated the systematic and widespread use of extreme violence by Dutch soldiers in the war against the Republic of Indonesia.
