Research on the early modern borderlands between the Ottoman Empire and the European Christian lands has always focused on the clash of empires. The small polities in the border region, while their existence was regularly acknowledged, never received due attention. A correct presentation of the perspective of these small states was hindered among other factors by the fact that a majority of the sources are in languages accessible only for a relatively small group of historians. This series aims at making narrative sources accessible for a broader audience in English translation and thus making local perspectives visible for the international research community.
