Discover the benefits of publishing in Open Access, what AUP can offer as a leading Open Access publisher and how to make the next step.

Let’s start with the basics. What is Open Access?

When an article, a book, map or illustration is published in Open Access it means that it is free and available to any user without any barriers (cost, registration) for access. A fee is paid, usually by an institution, funder or university to the publisher for this service.

It also means that the content is published under an Open Access license, which, depending on the type of license, gives the user certain rights to re-use your text.

Why publish in Open Access?

There are many reasons to publish your article, journal or conference proceedings in Open Access.

  • On average, OA content is downloaded 20 times more often than pay-walled content
  • OA content is, therefore, cited more often than content that is not OA
  • The visibility and impact of your work increases
  • Publishing in OA often complies with funder requirements
