Ilse Lazaroms

Ilse Lazaroms has an MA in Gender Studies from Utrecht University and a PhD in Jewish Studies from the European University Institute in Florence, Italy. She has held fellowships at Harvard University, the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Central European University, the Institute of Advanced Study in Budapest, and the Imre Kertész Kolleg in Jena. She has published internationally on Hungarian Jewish studies, East Central European history, literature, and feminist and Gender Studies. She is also a writer of literary fiction, essays, and criticism.

As commissioning editor at Central European University Press, she is interested in receiving book proposals in the critical humanities, including in gender, queer and trans studies, Jewish and Palestine studies, environmental humanities – such as critical animal studies, critical plant studies, ecofeminism, and climate justice –, studies on birth, reproductive justice, motherhood and care, studies on ethics, democracy and academic freedom, and any proposal in the humanities that thinks critically and creatively about our world from an historically informed perspective.
